WHY USE MAKE-UP?

19th December 2019 by Fiona Mobbs

Why Use Make-Up?

Wearing make-up can make a huge difference to your look and confidence. Just like clothes, your make-up also needs to be in your complementary colours to enhance your look. I always loved wearing make-up but, before I knew what the right colours were for me, I was making myself look ill and older unwittingly! Here’s my “before” photo, so you can see what I mean!

Fiona's "before" picture (before colour analysis)

Make-Up Can Enhance Your Look (despite your clothes)

During my colour-analysis (many years ago) I realised that make-up could make a big difference, even if the clothes aren't the best. So make-up was where I started to change my look, as it was cheaper than changing my whole wardrobe. I had an amazing reaction from a bloke I didn’t know that well, so that confirmed the importance of changing to the right colours - even just with make-up - and I’ve had many compliments since!

My credentials

When I trained as a personal stylist in 2008, I was trained in make-up application but in 2013 I had more, specific, make-up training to become a professional make-up artist, so I can apply make-up for you for a special occasion or teach you how to do your own.

I love inspiring people to use make-up that is right for them (whether that’s a little or a lot), so that you can look and feel fabulous every day, and get the compliments you deserve.

I am happy to do this individually, or in a group setting. An ideal group size would be four to six.

Make-up Classes

I can teach you how to apply make-up in your colours for your eye, face-shape and “clothing personality”. In other words applying the right amount and in the best way for you.

I can run a personal class, just for you, or I can run small group classes.  These are great for a fun and different hen-party (and great preparation for the big day), or team bonding session, or just chill time with your girl-friends. Whatever your idea, talk to me if you would like to discuss how this could work for you.

From time to time, I run 'pamper parties' or open events where you can come along to see me in action, so - if you haven't already - why not subscribe to my monthly newsletter so you'll hear about any events I am planning?  Click here to go through to the sign-up page.

Please call me if you have any questions.

A NEW YEAR VIENNA ADVENTURE

26th November 2018 by Fiona Mobbs

This month’s guest blog has been written by Chrissi Knights of Explorer Travel.

I am not sure what thoughts Christmas and New Year conjure up for you, but I bet amongst other things parties and get togethers feature high on the agenda, closely followed by a panic, “What am I going to wear?” With that in mind I thought I would share with you my experience during the run up to Christmas 2017.

We all have a wish list of places we want to visit and things we want to do, don’t we? As a travel agent, my list grows longer every time I arrange travel for another client and I get that longing explorer feeling. Since 2000 we have spent every New Year somewhere new, gradually working through that ever increasing list. So last year it was time to tick off a New Year in Vienna at the Silvester Hofburg Ball. A proper ball with a requirement for men to be in tails and ladies to wear a ball gown! Panic set in at the thought of shopping; I hate shopping with a passion, but I was fortunate to know Fiona, just a phone call away.

“Help! Should I hire through the internet?”

“No,” was the reply. “How do you know that the colour will be right for you and what about the fit?” Panic! We arrange to meet at Tiffany’s in Southampton but I arrive early. More panic!

“Can I help you?” asked a member of staff, as my eyes take in the host of colours and styles on offer.

“No thanks, I am waiting for my personal shopper,” I replied. Relief! Fiona walks through the door with a big smile and we soon get to work. The American’s use a derisory saying, “Getting more bang for your buck,” but sadly I can’t think of a better phrase to use at the moment. Fiona’s expertise quickly focused on colours and styles that suited me and at no time did I feel rushed or panicky. I must have tried on ten ball gowns, all from my colours and all paraded on the catwalk before choosing a little red number. Of course the process was helped because I had already had a wonderful colour analysis and wardrobe review by Fiona.

If you are someone that hates Christmas crowds or like me panic sets in at the very thought of clothes shopping, or maybe you are stuck for something to wear at your New Year celebrations; give Fiona a call. She will be your fairy godmother just waiting to wave her magic wand and all will be well. Trust me!

Notes:
The dress needed a little altering (the hem needed to be taken up), so Fiona suggested a tailor for this.  It was a busy time of year for Five Past Seven Tailoring and Alterations (in Chandler’s Ford), but they turned it around in time and I was very happy with the result.

Sadly Tiffany’s is no longer in Southampton but you will still find them in Stubbington at 8 Stubbington Green, PO14 2JG.

In addition to the most amazing New Year ’s Eve we booked Viennese Waltz lessons on the morning of 31st December so we didn’t look complete idiots on the night.

TURNING THINGS AROUND: GILL’S STORY OF 2018

26th September 2018 by webadmin

Why I asked for Fiona’s help

“I first asked Fiona for help when I was invited to a VIP event back in May 2018. It was a particularly poignant time for me as my Mum was terminally ill, and she was very pleased to chat with me about this event well before it took place, as well as tell anyone who would listen about my very secret event!

So, imagine my despair when I looked in my wardrobe and found a navy and white dress which didn’t look great, and that was my best outfit! I had some other nice dresses but nothing that would stand out as amazing or special, so I sent Fiona a desperate email asking for her help.

What was agreed

Unfortunately I didn’t have much spare time, however I was able to get a half day holiday from work and so arranged to meet Fiona in Southampton at a department store. We only had one hour together and she whizzed around getting items that I would never normally have looked at!

Fiona had researched the internet of the store and so had prepped before that hour. She also sent me the list so I was aware of some of the outfits and ideas before we met up. Of course I’d looked online myself… but I’d not found much or the colours that Fiona had.

I did know my colours!

Many years ago I was advised of my colours, so I had this info to hand but over the years you forget about this, lose the confidence in what goes with what or what you can wear with what, and I needed reminding, desperately!

So, she gave to me loads to try on, and Fiona was looking, checking the styles – did they suit me and seeing what was my style, how it fitted, etc. Then she’d go back out and get something else – Fiona was amazing!

Results

That day I didn’t get my dress, however I did purchase a pair of bright blue trousers (which have earned me loads of compliments since) and a few other clothes (which if I’m honest would never have done so without Fiona’s help or advice).

That day I gained lots of confidence to wear bright colours all together, and what you can put with something else or what I wouldn’t normally put with something but looks good with it. And yes over the months I’ve purchased better coloured items (not always the right things but mainly good colours).

After our trip, I purchased a dress online which Fiona recommended to me on her email research and I teamed it with a bright cardigan and bright coloured short rain coat & I felt amazing!

Feeling bright and confident I visited my Mum in the afternoon who also said I looked lovely, particularly that colour blue on me. And she was telling all where I’d been and who I’d seen – Princess Royal at a Lymington Sailability boat naming ceremony. Sadly, my Mum passed away a few days later (I’d like to think she held on for my event, and seeing me all confident and looking lovely).

Since then I have worn the dress and bright cardigan again and again, and have received some lovely compliments.

And because it doesn’t suit me (anymore) I’ve not worn a black cardigan or a black or dark top at all!! All have been brighter colours, which has given me confidence too!

Further help

And I have gone from a summer time ‘spring’ wardrobe to a winter time ‘spring’ one too as I was feeling stuck, so I asked Fiona for help again.

And once again Fiona has been able to deliver results and help with suggestions and inspiration. Then with a visit to a store where I’m now feeling inspired again.

I have decided to get my inspired kick of colour pairing every 6 months with Fiona which I now know will instil confidence in me as well as lots of lovely compliments!

So if you’re feeling stuck, not sure if the colour is too dark, etc do give Fiona a call. She is very versatile as to what your requirements are. And don’t feel afraid of change.

I am very grateful to Fiona who I can recommend wholeheartedly to anyone who wants to feel good about themselves. Thank you Fiona.”

Here are the tops I’ve since donated to charity, and

MORE THAN JUST SPRING COLOURS: KATIE’S STORY

24th August 2018 by webadmin

What is colour analysis?

I’d heard about ‘having your colours done’ before but never really knew what it entailed. With Fiona Mobbs, I discovered, it is so much more than just a diagnosis of, “You’re a Spring, here are your colours, off you go!”

Meeting

I met Fiona from Your Colour and Style at a networking event and what made her memorable (apart from the poetry books I bought from her – that’s another story) was the fact that she was wearing a bright, colourful outfit that instantly made me feel cheerful. Thinking about how I could choose such a colour to wear without feeling too garish, I went to have a chat.

After exchanging details, we made contact again and arranged to meet to learn about each other’s businesses. In fact, we organised this centred on a shopping trip – fantastic! Despite the minimal time for this initial meeting, Fiona managed to find me numerous items of clothing that not only differed from my usual palette of muted tones of blue, but that were bright, suited me perfectly and were exactly what I was looking for. Following this success, I booked Fiona for a personal colour consultation and wardrobe review.

Fiona’s service

What struck me initially about Fiona’s service is that she started by finding out my reasons for wanting a consultation (that I had recently started my own business and wanted to create a more memorable yet professional appearance) and that the whole day was tailored so that I would be well equipped to take what I’d learned and use it in the future.

Interestingly, I did find out I was a ‘Spring’ (rather than the Summer we initially thought on the shopping trip – highlighting the need for a thorough analysis), but it was the process that impressed me. Fiona made sure that I saw the difference with the subtle changes in tones and shades between the colour palettes, taking the time to explain and demonstrate the effect on my complexion. Interestingly, the colours in my range are not the normal shades I’d be drawn to, but I could see the difference they made. There was a definite pop when they were positioned near my face.

After receiving my choice of ‘Spring’ colour wallet, the next step was my wardrobe review. I was now rather worried that I’d be making a rather large donation to a charity shop and having to go and purchase a whole new wardrobe, thinking that most of my clothes weren’t the right colours for me. Luckily, this wasn’t the case at all. Fiona was very positive about what I had, taking the time to look at each item and find ways I could use it, whether that would be to accessorise with something in a complimentary colour to brighten the outfit, or mix and match my existing clothes to create something better than I’d have thought to do myself.

Throughout my personal colour consultation, I received a truly personalised service. Because Fiona’s visit was to my home, we could really make use of assessing my current wardrobe together and react to the different aspects about my colour and style that came through during the day. As well as this, Fiona was focused on getting to know me and my requirements, and not attempting to sell me clothes or make up as part of the process. In fact, the support didn’t stop when Fiona left at the end of the day. I was encouraged to contact her at any time afterwards, for example when I’d found an item of clothing when shopping, but maybe wasn’t sure whether it was quite right for me. Fiona is passionate about making sure her customers obtain the skills to be able to style themselves effectively.

I would highly recommend Fiona to not only learn about your particular colour and style, but to enable you to become confident with your own styling for life.

Shopping With Fiona, September 2017

10th September 2017 by Fiona Mobbs

“Yesterday, I had an amazing one-to-one shopping trip with Fiona in Bradbeers, and M&Co Romsey.  It’s not easy to buy clothes where I currently live, and time spent at home is always very busy with little time given to shopping for myself, let alone having time to find the right size, colour and shape to suit me!

Cue Fiona!  Fiona arrived early and already had a rail of clothes picked out just from our brief messages.  The colours she picked were vibrant, fitted perfectly, although Fiona’s keen eye meant rejecting a few more mainly based on colour (although right for me, not the best).  This is key.  In the past if I tried on something which looked nice and covered the bits we all want to hide, I would buy it despite the colour … and then pass it by in my wardrobe when looking for something to wear!

I selected 13 items to purchase from just two shops, including “going out” tops, day tops, a dress, jackets and little cover up cardigans – absolutely incredible!

Fiona was fun to shop with, easy to talk to and would get my own opinion before offering hers, which I found very useful and will focus me for future shopping trips.  It was wonderful to shop for clothes with someone new who doesn’t know your insecurities but just dresses you to look fabulous and to get a different perspective on style and colour.

I am a very happy customer and would highly recommend booking this experience.”
