What do you do when you – unexpectedly – find yourself in possession of several wardrobes full of quality, pre-loved ladies’ clothes and accessories? You hold a giant sale to raise funds for your favourite charity! (At least, that is what I chose to do!)
I have always been a supporter of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance as they do such an important job. When I discovered that I had over 600 items, many of them prestigious brands like Jaegar and Berketex, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to raise some funds by finding them appreciative new owners.
As my clients and followers will know, I spent much of April cleaning, ironing and cataloging what I had ready for sale. I then opened my home in May for appointments to view, try on and buy from the collection. Bringing my professional expertise to bear, I was also able to curate items for buyers based on what I knew they would like and would suit them.
Many of the pieces came from my late Mum. She was always very stylish and so I found myself in possession of a wide range of sizes and colours that would suit wedding guests, cruisers or ladies who love to look elegant. I thoroughly enjoyed the sale: some appointments were with my existing customers, but some were people who I had never met before and saw my promotions. It was lovely to see them all – and to see them leave with some bargain but beautiful purchases!
The ’sale of the century’ (as we dubbed it), was extended into the Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend so I was finally able to reclaim my house and tot up the total on 6th June. All the proceeds from appointments booked and sales were included.
I was delighted to be able to be able to present HIOWAA with a cheque for £550. Natalie Russell, Support Engagement Officer for the Air Ambulance, not only gratefully received the cheque but has also taken the remaining items of clothing, as there is further value for the charity in being able to sell these on in bulk.
I’d like to thank everyone who bought something as well as everyone who shared details of the sale. With their support, I am proud to have done my bit in my own stylish way for such a useful cause.
