Funeral: black or colour?

17th April 2021 by Fiona Mobbs

Watching Prince Philip’s funeral was quite a sobering experience. It was a dignified end to an extraordinary life, and Covid restrictions were a mixed blessing (less “fuss” as the Duke would have wanted, but sad to see the Queen so isolated).

It’s easy to dress top to toe in black, if that’s what’s required at such an event, but when people talk about celebrating someone’s life, it makes sense to me that people request colour at a funeral, to not be so sombre.

I tend to mention, during a wardrobe review/cull, to not dispose of all black items, in case of a future funeral requirement, where the dress code may be black.

My thoughts, however, are with the Queen and her family at their time of loss. And, how, it doesn’t matter what your station in life, we will all go the same way when it is our turn. It is the cycle of life, and it doesn’t matter if you are royalty or not, we come and go with our own birthday suit.
