As we celebrate another Valentine’s Day, I wonder who or what do you love?
Valentine’s Day, also called Saint Valentine’s Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine, is celebrated annually on February 14. According to Wikipedia, in the 18th Century in England, it became the time when couples expressed their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery and sending greeting cards (known as “valentines”).
But that’s commercialism. We don’t have to buy presents to show our love for someone or something. And, I’ve seen more than one post that suggests we should show our appreciation or affection for someone every day, not just on one day of the year, although of course it is good to bring it into focus.
So, with this blog, I’m wondering who or what do you love? If you haven’t got a special someone or something to love, what about self-love?
What can you think about yourself that you love? We mostly find fault with our bodies and focus on the negatives, but today I’m inviting you to think about something that you do love. Maybe you have lovely skin, great pins, or thick hair. The latter is something I wish I had! I can guarantee you that someone somewhere would love what you dislike! Maybe you could think about that and just change your perspective on something to decide to appreciate it instead.
If you find this a real challenge, think about your personality. There must be something about yourself that someone else would appreciate. Do you think of others and perform acts of kindness to others? That is what I think Valentine’s Day could be about if you are not caught up in sending cards, flowers or chocolates to someone.
So, I wish you a happy Valentine’s Day, whatever you are up to. Love yourself, if nothing else and think how you can cheer someone else up who may be feeling unloved this Valentine’s Day.
