2025 Trend for Halternecks

30th November 2025 by Fiona Mobbs

Have you noticed this year’s trend for halternecks?

Yes, they’ve made a comeback, but this time they are looking much sexier, more sophisticated and have interesting embellishments or gorgeous materials. Whether you went with the trend in the 1970s or 1990s, we’re pleased they’re back as they are glamorous and draw attention very much to the upper body, which (if you have a slim neck, great cleavage or nice arms) will be welcome. They will also focus attention away from your lower half, which for some people is preferred.

Now we’re into party season, you can turn up the glamour with an evening party dress with a halterneck, or a jumpsuit with a halterneck.

How to style your halterneck for your body shape

If you have broad shoulders (or an “athletic build”)

  • opt for halternecks with wider straps or softer fabrics to balance proportions.
  • pair with flowing skirts or wide-leg trousers to soften the shoulder line.

If you have a petite frame

  • choose halter necks with a deep V or plunging cut to elongate the torso.
  • keep details minimal – sleek fabrics and clean lines avoid overwhelming your frame.

If you are curvy (or hourglass)

  • go for fitted halterneck dresses or tops that accentuate your waist.
  • look for styles with ruching or wrap details to highlight curves.

If you identify with a “pear shape”

  • as said previously, halter necks draw attention upwards, so can give balance to your hips.
  • pair with an A-line skirt or tailored trousers to create harmony, and go for more colour on the upper body than lower.

What if you have something in the wardrobe you don’t currently wear?

Consider if you could have the neckline altered to a halterneck, rather than buy new. This might be a more cost-effective option than buying new. Even better if you are handy making such changes yourself.

Halternecks are about standing tall and exuding confidence. Enjoy your party!
