Fiona in 1980s glasses that don't suit

Help to choose glasses that flatter

5th February 2022 by Fiona Mobbs Leave a Comment

I don’t know about you, but I dread it when the optician tells me my prescription has changed and I’ll need new glasses.  It’s not the glasses themselves, it’s the pressure of having to choose the new frames!  Invariably, your old style is no longer in stock, and you have to choose something new.

What frame shape suits me?

First, there’s the frame shape.  How do I know what suits my face?  I can’t see much when I’m wearing the trial pair so I’m reliant on the optician’s opinion more than anything else.  (I know they see a lot of people wearing a lot of glasses, but do they really know what suits me – and what I like?).

What colour suits me?

Then, there’s the colour.  At least I know what colours suit me, but do I go for something bold that makes a statement or something more subtle? And don’t even start on frameless or half-framed – that just makes the choices harder!

Some opticians do now have that clever thing where they can take your photo in different frames so you can see how you look.  Well, at least I can put my own glasses back on to see them!  But they still look like a selection of passport photos to me, and who ever has a great passport photo?  I’m still none the wiser.

Take your personal stylist with you to help you choose!

So I think I’ve got a solution – for other people, at least! Take your Image Consultant along to your optician appointment with you and ask them to help you decide.  Of course, opticians are highly skilled people but they won’t have had the colour and style training that I have had. I’m happy to work with any Optician and will go wherever yours is in Hampshire, Dorset, Isle of Wight or Sussex, so please get in touch to discuss your needs.

We all know how important first impressions are, and that much communication is done through our facial expressions.  The right glasses will flatter and enhance your look, rather than detract from it.  Your glasses may last you for years, and are usually an expensive purchase, so let me help you take the pressure off getting it right.

p.s.
If you want to see how wrong I got it – before I had my image training – the photo at the top is of me.  Think those specs’ are a bit too large for my face, never mind the colour and shape!
